Love 101

1 Peter 3:3-4

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

This verse is often misunderstood, misread, and misinterpreted. I used to be told this verse meant we shouldn’t wear jewelry, style our hair and wear extensions, and shouldn’t dress up and have style (while being modest of course).

What this verse means is all of that makeup, fashion, jewelry, and hair are nice and all, but true beauty comes from within. Learn to love yourself, the woman God has created you to be. I always go back to proverbs 31 to remind myself of the woman that wakes up early to care for her family without a complaint whenever I am close to complaining. BeYOUtiful in & out. You are God’s masterpiece. ❤

  1. Crystal this is so profound and you are right , this piece of scripture has been historically misinterpreted. I had some friends who went to a Church and the women don’t wear any of those things. They are not allowed. They look a bit homely and I felt like religion vs. experiencing Christ was more of the focus. It was hard for me to be a part of the rituals. Thanks for this Great Post!

    1. You’re absolutely right! I used to be shunned at a certain church I used to go to because they prohibited jewelry. They looked at me as if I was unclean. I was not allowed to participate in anything. After I left, I started developing a relationship with Christ instead of focusing on religion.
