Have you ever been in a relationship where you’re so in love that you just can’t get enough of that person no matter what happens? You’re so intertwined with their love that no one else matters. It’s just you and them.
There’s trust. Unconditional love. Faithfulness. Peace. There’s freedom. There’s joy. But there’s also tears and a storm that happened before you felt that way. This is how my love life is like with God.
At some point in your life, you’ve questioned, “How do I know that this is you God?”
When something contradicts the word of God, it comes from the enemy. When it’s all about you, it comes from self. When it glorifies God, it comes from Him.
God is not man, that he should lie,
or a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
When you spend time with someone you love, you become more aware of their presence. You know their voice. By reading the word and spending more time with God, you know Him more.
God speaks to us in many ways. Whether it’s like Daniel with his visions and dreams, through other people, a conscious like feeling in your gut, or a strong voice that’s so powerful in the back of your head that it shakes you. He gave us the Holy Spirit to be with us once we have accepted Christ as our Lord and savior. He also places things on our heart. Whenever you start to say, “Something told me to do this” and it’s for something that does not contradict the word of God, that is the Holy Spirit leading you!
A few years ago, (when I used to eat meat) I was walking to McDonald’s. I used to normally buy the McChicken, chocolate chip cookies, and small fries. For some reason, I bought two that day. I thought maybe one of my siblings would want one. As I walked back home, a homeless man that walks around my area was in my sight. I smiled, said hi, and passed him.
“Give him your food, he’s hungry!” I immediately stopped. That was the first rime God’s presence was really strong and I had chills from how powerful it felt. I turned around to chase him down. As I gave him my extra burger, I was lead to give him a bus pass and money. I knew he liked to ride busses because I seen him on there a few times. He thanked me and then smiled.
After that day, every time he passed me I would think about that moment. He learned to open up to me more even though he didn’t say much.
Who do you run to whenever you have a situation? Do you thank God whenever He answers your prayers? Do you spend more than 10-15 minutes a day with God? If neither of those answers make you think about God, then you most likely have trouble hearing the voice of God. Let’s become less of us and more of Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide and help you learn.
If you’ve ever heard His voice, but no longer hear Him you could be in your quiet season. This season is where you used to be on fire for God, He answered all of your prayers, showed you He can move mountains, and all things are possible with God. But, you no longer see any of that. You’re still and everything is quiet.
Don’t be discouraged, this is where you have to show God that although everything is quiet you will still praise Him. You will still serve Him and remain faithful. He wants to see where our obedience lies through these tests. Don’t fail, He is always near. You might need to fast and spend more time with Him. Sometimes when we are overwhelmed, we are wrapped up in our plans not His. Humble yourselves and listen.
2 Timothy 1:8-14
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. 13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
